Fords defeat Episcopal Academy 36-30

The Fords improved their record to 3-0 in the Inter-Ac league with a 36-30 win over Episcopal Academy decisively winning 8 of the 14 bouts.  Dylan Anderson clinched the win with a pin at 120lbs.   Ben Grobman, Remy Yang, Vince Bellwoar, Dean Feinman, Ron Tassoni, LJ Barlow, and Chris DiBello each won their respective matches.  The win improved the Fords ranking to number 4 in Delaware County.

 

Fords 4-1 at Buckley Duals

The Fords tallied four wins and one loss as they hosted the annual Buckley Duals.

Fords defeat Penn Charter 57-21

Ben Grobman, Remy Yang, Dean Feinman, Ron Tassoni, and L.J. Barlow led the Fords with wins by fall as Haverford improved it’s league record to 2-0.

Fords beat Malvern 42-36

The Fords opened the Inter-Ac season with a win over Malvern Prep (42-36.)  Leading the team with wins by fall were Remy Yang, Vince Bellwoar, and Dean Feinman.   Link to news article provided below.

Willie Walters/Jay Kopp Invitational Results

The Fords travelled to Winchester, Virginia, to compete in the Willie Walters/Jay Kopp Invitational Tournament hosted by James Wood High School.  The trip gave the Fords the opportunity to wrestle amidst a tough pool of 17 teams from Virginia and West Virginia that included several Virginia state place winners.  Senior Ron Tassoni led the Fords earning a tournament championship at 170 lbs, L.J. Barlow placed 2nd at 182 lbs, Dean Feiinman and Vince Bellwoar both placed 5th and Dante Clementi earned a 6th place medal.

Glen Mills Summary

The Fords lost an exciting dual meet to Glenn Mills (40-34)  despite the efforts of Dylan Anderson, Vince Bellwoar, Ron Tassoni, and L.J. Barlow who each earned wins by fall.  Nick Gallo wrestled very well and earned a major decision at 138 lbs.

L.J. Barlow places 7th at Beast of the East

Haverford wrestlers Zach Rego (160) Ron Tassoni (170) and L.J. Barlow (182) each had strong performances at the competitive Beast of the East Tournament in Newark, Delaware.

Freshman L.J. Barlow battled through six wins and two losses, defeating Jose Ortiz of Bethlehem Catholic by a score of 3-0 to earn the 7th place medal.

Ron Tassoni advanced to the second day of competition.  Having knocked off the 11th seed, Ron lost a tough 3-0 bout to 7th seed Austin Conicker of Pittsburg Central Catholic in the medal qualifying round.

Zach Rego earned two wins by fall before being knocked out of the tournament.

Radnor Tournament Highlights

Varsity Wrestlers had a solid outing at the Radnor Holiday Tournament. Dean Feinman (152) captured first place and freshmen Jack Gola (106) and Jake Hervada (132) earned second place medals. Dylan Anderson (120) Nick Gallo (138) and Dante Clementi (160) each placed third.

Junior Varsity Wrestlers put forth a dominating performance. Stephen Tornetta (106) and Andrew Rossi (132) both pinned their opponents to take first place, Ben Quan (120) and Nick Alexander (160) earned second place honors, while Chris Ley(113) Will Solmssen(132) and Troy Trauger(182) each placed third. The JV Fords won a total of eleven matches by fall!

 

New Hope-Solebury Tournament

The Fords had a great weekend finishing second place at the New Hope-Solebury Tournament. Top Three Teams included Upper Dublin (204.5 points) Haverford (203 points) and Malvern Prep (175 points.) Article regarding the tournament provided below.

Freshman LJ Barlow competes at Jr. Olympics

This past summer freshman LJ Barlow was selected to compete on one of two Mid Atlantic Wrestling Association teams that participated in the Junior Olympics in New Orleans.  LJ had the opportunity to wrestle 17 freestyle matches at the 171lbs weight class competing against high school seniors and graduates.
